What is TeleHelp 24/7?

TeleHelp24/7 is a confidential, virtual mental healthcare service.  It is designed to provide individuals with counseling for mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, and grief. We are particularly focused on communities of color and other marginalized communities by providing culturally competent care.  

 

What does it mean to have “culturally competent care”?

​

Culturally competent mental health services respect diversity in the client population and cultural factors that can affect wellness, such as language, communication styles, beliefs, values, behaviors, and coping styles. A vital component of cultural competence is the provider's self-awareness regarding their own potential bias and maintaining professional continuing education and training. 

 

What are TeleHelp 24/7 hours of operation?

 

As the name implies, TeleHelp 24/7 operates 24 hours a day…7 days a week on a virtual platform.

How can you connect with a TeleHelp 24/7 Professional?

​

You can connect with our providers using two-way online video conferencing. To access our network of providers, you will be required to log into our network, provide some identification, an email address and other contact information.

​

Can I access the system using my computer or mobile devices?

​

Yes. You can gain access using an iPhone, iPad or Android that allows you to conduct video sessions. Utilizing the latest version of Chrome or Firefox is recommended, along with a webcam and microphone if possible. If available, headsets may be useful for minimizing noise and increasing clarity.

Will you need a referral to make a TeleHelp24/7 appointment?

​

No. You are not required to obtain a referral from their primary care provider, local mental health provider, or any person at the university if you are a student.

How do you schedule an appointment with TeleHelp 24/7?

​​

You will need to log on to the website www.telehelp24/7.org go to the services page find your service, Student, Faith-Based, First Responder, or Personal, Click learn more, click get started, and fill out the registration form.

Once you hit submit, you will receive an email acknowledgment and with 24 to 48 hours you will receive an email with your log in information. You may enter the portal from the email or return back to the website under the services you are interested in and log in to the portal

What will happen during the first session?

​

During the first session, the provider will verify your identity and private location, review the completed intake documents, inquire as to why you are seeking services, discuss any current symptoms, engage in personal goal setting for the counseling process, and schedule a follow-up appointment. Most counseling sessions last approximately 45 minutes. ​

 

Tips for a successful session with a TeleHelp 24/7 professional. 

​

Counseling is a collaborative process. Active engagement in each session is important to realize a sense of value for the counseling experience. Some helpful suggestions for a successful session are:

·      Commit to the scheduled appointments

​

·      Be open and honest

​

·      Ask questions and provide feedback

​

·      Remember this is not a destination...it's a journey

 

What should you do if you need to cancel an appointment?

​

​You are expected to provide 24-hour notice of cancellation of their scheduled appointment to their provider.

​

Who can access my TeleHelp 24/7 health information?

​

​Patient or counseling notes, data, or images are considered confidential and protected health information by the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). For more information about HIPPA ​Click Here.

 

 

Can I access the same provider for each visit?

​

​Yes. You are encouraged to schedule future appointments with your provider at the conclusion of their initial session. However, you may elect to change providers at your discretion.
